That is very impressive, Helen! I've seen demonstrations of brain-controlled prosthetics, and I've seen examples of osseointegration...but this is the first time I've seen video of BOTH put together. It's one of those things that makes me feel good about the future for us all!

My friend Bob Owens, who was the first AE American to be osseointegrated (he uses a manual prosthesis), tells me that the technology has advanced even farther since this video was made. Now, instead of using external sensing devices to communicate with the nerves, they are implanting the wires, so it's even more impressive!
Bob self-funded his own osseointegration in Switzerland, because at the time the FDA had not approved the surgery in America (and naturally it was not covered by insurance). His surgeon, who pioneered the surgery, is currently living and performing osseointegration surgeries in Los Angeles.
