I am inspired by spyder's threads on paintball and skeet shooting to introduce some bike technology I really like.
After I lost my arm to a very high amputation, I was reluctant to get back on a bike. Biggest part of my worries was how to deal with a sudden-braking situation. I figured I would take a lot of the braking force on the one arm, causing my handlebars to twist suddenly. We tried out a couple different tandems, but settled on the Bilenky Viewpoint.
The Viewpoint works great for me but could be helpful I think for a wide range of physical disabilities. Our friend who is blind bought one after trying ours, and another friend with ALS really enjoyed riding on ours on occasion.
Pictures coming later in this thread.

The Viewpoint tandem, made by the Bilenky company in Philadelphia, has the captain (who steers and brakes) riding upright, in the back. The "stoker", that's me, rides recumbent on a lawnchair-like seat in front. Super comfortable! Image coming as soon as I can figure out how to reduce the size of the file. Thanks for the pics, i´ve never seen that Kind of Tandem before ! I understand the breaking Problem cause of the g-force. May a construction like a back seat(just turned 180°) which is mounted on the upper Frame pipe to hold the chest in comfortable cycling Position angle, could work !?!?!? (may i make i draw of the idea, if it´s not understandable)

Hi, Roland, I'm interested in your idea, but not sure I have a good picture in my mind. Yes, maybe a drawing would be helpful!

I´m sorry but i think that´s a result of my bad english, here i made a quick draw: The green construction which is mounted on the upper pipe and got something like a pillow for a comfortable lean on the (in german: Brustbein) middle bone of your chest. So the most breaking G-Forces on your arm should be gone. Needs to be tested but carefully !!!

Hi, Roland, In English the official word for that bone in English is "sternum", but people will less formally sometimes say "breastbone", almost exactly the same word as in German! Thanks for that picture -- it's very clear and I understand the idea now. Yes, something like that could work! I also considered various versions of one-person recumbent bicycles. These days, I'm pretty happy just being the "stoker" on the tandem. Eric
