If the members don't mind, I'm going to try to fix the place up a bit and make it a bit fancier in here with respects to appearance. The boards are kind of plain, and I've recently learned how to improve on it a bit. It won't be too wild...
If anyone has a few ideas to graphically improve on what you see here, let me know and I'll try to figure out how to integrate the ideas.
Nothing I'm changing cannot be undone... so if I screw it up too bad, let me know.
Thanks!

Best of luck, mate.
My only criticism of the board at present is the cumbersome procedure you have to go through to get an email about a new posting (and which doesn't work at all on Apple Mac/Firefox!) But the white type with black shadows is very hard to read without squinting, so anything you can do to clean THAT up will get my vote.
Allen.

Stonecutter: A recent change that I do not care for is toward the top of the screen where a font was recently changed that contains the logout icon. I find that line difficult to read as compared to the rest of the forum. I do look forward to seeing your artistic talent at work. BillF

Stonecutter, whats up with the Large Red Check Marks & X's I'm trying out a graphic that lets you know if there are unread posts in that section easier than what the default was... The default was litte folders that had a blue dot for new posts and a gray dot for no new posts. I'm looking into other things - like maybe little mailboxes... if there's a mailbox with a flag up - new messages... flag not there... no new messages? What do you think? On my shriner message board, the graphic is a Fez that's red for new messages and the same fez in B&W for no messages... get the picture? I'm trying to make the place a little more graphically aesthetic, but rest assured - anything I do can certainly be undone. Oh yeah - and if you guys would like me to leave well enough alone - I can do that too! I was thinking about changing those to bigger buttons that are easier to read. Working on... Thanks for the feedback.

The red color of the X's and checks is what bothers me--it feels aggressive. Could we try a different color, like blue perhaps?

The dark/light envelopes in the circles are great (I'm colour-blind, so I think they are blue, but it doesn't matter that much).
Simple and useful.

The envelopes look great. I like them much better than the check marks.
Thanks Stonecutter.

Looking for other ideas.
One thing we should do is a graphic for the top of the page.... Any graphic artists out there? We can have a graphic as wide as we want - but we should keep it to 800x150 pixels. It will replace the text that reads "The Amputee Discussion & Support Forum"
If you wish, we can have multiple submissions and then put it to a vote on what the favorite is...
Anyone interested in playing around with a photo or graphics editor and making a submission? If you contact me, I'll host the graphics file and post them in a poll for the user groups to vote on.

I did run a graphic design company for many years, but I think the main lesson I learned about graphic design was 'Don't do it'... The simpler the design, the better it was. The more 'elements' that were brought in, the more confusing it became.
My forté was typography rather than images, and all I would say about the current top of the page is that there is far too much going on, and there should be much more difference in size between the 'title' and the 'Hey' line & date - the first could be bigger, the second much smaller. (I'll leave aside any old English reservations I might have about 'Hey'.)
But having said that, by all means try something different - if it doesn't work, there's enough honest folk around here to say it doesn't work!

I think it looks good - though took my brain a few minutes to click on <grin> Many thanks for taking the trouble.

Sorry - I've been a bit tied up lately - I'll get to changing the header soon. I need to do a little research on it to make sure I don't screw the place up! (Just kidding...)

So far, all good. The envelopes are a BIG improvement, and I think the centred masthead looks less cluttered, too.
Glad you are finding the time, stonecutter!

...I think the centred masthead looks less cluttered, too. I'm glad you like that. Just figuring out how to do that was rocket science! Next on the list is trying to see how to get rid of the text that has << Page Title >> removed from up there. It helps to clutter up the top bit. Then after that, I'll work un getting a little graphic banner up there with the forum title. We'll keep plugging away to make this place our own... T.

Hey Administration: I couldn't get on without asking for my password...still wouldn't let me on....so I got on by hitting the 2nd address on your automatic reply to my forgetting my password. BTW I had it correct & it still would not let me in. Is this an april fools joke? ?? Not funny!!

Is working normally now? Sorry - wasn't anything I did - I promise! ( Administrators cannot see or change anyone's password - it's done completely automatically by the user. )

"stonecutter" Did you make us start having to use our ID and password? No, I was just kidding you....wasn't mad, just hyper because it wouldn't let me in even with the ID and password. Thanks for the reply.
