Hello folks and a good day to all.
I'm having a bit of an issue with my current prosthesis and I'm curious if there are other options I can discuss with my leg guy. My set up now is a College Park Venture foot, Ossur Iceross Seal-in "wave" liners. My socket is a hard plastic or maybe fiberglass shell and inside that is another shell/liner that is flexible, but not soft.
My prosthetist is also a BK amputee and has been in the business for about 20 years. I consider him not only an important part of my health care "team", but a friend. My current leg is the second one he's made for me and I'm generally happy with it, except I think there are other options out there that might suit me better.
I have two problems that I'm not sure how to handle. One, I like the Ossur liners, but the darn things bunch up at my knee and pinch and irritate the skin. I have 2 different sizes of liner, one smaller than the other. No matter which one I use I use I have the same problem with the bunching and pinching. The other problem I'm having is with the "stop" or protrusion that rests just under my knee cap. I may be wrong, but I think it's to prevent me from going to deep in the socket. In the last year it's caused an unacceptable amount of pain at the front of my knee and the skin has broken open a few times.
One of my friends is a recent amputee and he has a completely different type socket than I have. It almost looks like it's made of canvas and isn't nearly as rigid as mine. He also has much better movement when bending his knee. When I try to squat down with mine I can only get down a small amount then I have to either swing my leg out straight or get on my hands and knees.
Maybe I'm wanting too much, but it seems to me there must be a better way. I want to talk with my prosthtist about it, but I'm not sure what to ask for of even if there's an alternative.
