Hey! A plan is a good thing! Hopefully that serves to alleviate some anxiety you may still be feeling.
We'll be thinking of you on that day. Make sure you come back and tell us how you're doing and how it went as soon as you are able.

Make sure you come back and tell us how you're doing and how it went as soon as you are able. Yes, I'll give you an update as soon as I'm able. I think the anxiety is calming down, I certainly feel reassured that my surgeon has thought about all options and I'm confident he has made the right decision. It will all be fine and hopefully an end to a years worth of pain. I'm going into this with a positive attitude and I have the determination and a great support network to see me through recovery

You obviously won't be reading this today Cate, or probably for a while, but hope everything went well. Have been thinking of you.

Thanks ann, all went well, surgery was 3-5pm, the surgeon is pleased with how it all went. My fist night was rough with vomiting, last night I got a few hours sleep. I was up on crutches by yesterday afternoon, today it's a wound check and hopefully home tomorrow The pain is ok, more uncomfortable pressure than anything, if it doesn't get any worse than this I will cope

Wow ... so glad it all went well Cate and that the pain is not too bad. Amazing up on crutches by yesterday and home possibly tomorrow, is that quicker than expected? Now I am going to sound like a mum and remind you not to overdo it when you get home (Ha ha), do take care and hope everything continue to go as well as it has so far.

So far all I've done is watch tv and practiced going up and down the stairs. The doorstep is proving a problem but it's early days. I'm more comfotable in my own chair and looking forward to sleeping well tonight.

Glad you are back home Cate, there is nothing like being back in your own home. Enjoy the enforced relaxation, (hear its going to be a rubbish weekend weather-wise anyway). If you have problems with things like the doorstep etc., you know that you can borrow stuff from the Red Cross whilst you need it. I discovered they have a wealth of equipment and other services on offer.

I'm happy to report things are going really well. I slept for almost 12 hours last night! Today I've had quite a few visitors but also plenty of time on my own. I have family staying with me tonight but they are all out celebrating a family birthday, I thought if I go it might ruin the recovery I have already achieved. I'm going to speak to the OT on Monday and tell her I can't manage the front step, she came to visit me at home last week and she thought I had the ability to get up and over the top bit, I do have the ability but I lack the confidence right now. I think I'm going to ask for a ramp which will make things really easy. Pain is totally under control, it's really amazing. I'm comfortable and happy and taking things easy but also moving around the house to maintain and gain mobility. I'm really happy to be part of this group with people who understand

A ramp's a good thing long-term, but maybe a short-term solution would be a grab-handle (or even two), so that you can really support your top half while you manoeuvre your legs over the obstacle.
Allen.

Hi, I spoke to my OT this morning and she is authorising hand rails. Things remain to go well. I'm only taking paracetamol for the pain!

Hi, I'm happy to report I have conquered the front door step, I use the hand rail for going out but just the crutches for coming in. I went out for the first time yesterday, my brother and sister-in-law took me out for lunch, it was lovely to be out and I now feel I have the confidence to venture out on my own. Tomorrow I have my first check up with the consultant. I've had a few experiences of pain but nothing I can't cope with. The stitches will hopefully be all disolved now and I'm eager to get the dressings off. Hope you are all well x

Today I went on my own and filled the car with fuel, I wasn't sure I'd manage but I at least needed to try, it was no problem. Then I went off for my first check up. I've had all the dressings removed and just the steri strips remain. My consultant is very pleased, he said there is very little swelling and hardly any bruising. I don't need to go back for 4 weeks, that's also the week I go to the limb fitting centre. It's hard to believe surgery was two weeks ago, recovery so far has been better than I could have imagined

First time I went out by myself after my revision surgery, my wife was much more worried about things than I was! Glad you are recovering well!

Its a great feeling isn't it Cate. I am bilateral and after my revision surgery, I had about a month at home where it was difficult to get out and then I went off to inpatient rehab so it was a good few months before I got home and started getting out and about again. The first time out in the car was a bit scary, I felt almost like I was learning to drive again and I still remember the first time I filled up with petrol, but after a few trips out you build your confidence and it all comes back to you. Really glad everything is going so well for you.

Last Friday I had my first night out since surgery, I was a bit anxious and choosing an outfit proved a problem but I came up with a comfortable, suitable one for the occasion Attachments:

Hi all, I've mainly used crutches since surgery and one shoulder has suffered. I was post op medication free but my GP put me back onto the codeine and paracetamol for the shoulder pain, then I got pleurisy! It's just 'a touch of pleurisy' according to the doctor and I'm coping with that. On a positive note my leg is fab and I have very little post op pain now, everything externally has healed really well and I have a check up with the consultant on Tuesday then an appointment at the limb centre on Friday, hopefully they will agree things are healed well enough to be cast for a new socket...it's all go from this week onwards

sorry to hear about the pleurisy Cate, but glad everything else is going well. Good luck on Friday and hope you get the cast done.

I had my check up with the consultant earlier this week, all is good and he's very happy with the healing. I had my appointment at the limb centre today and they are impressed and pleased with the results, I had a cast taken for the new socket, however it will be mid July when I get the limb... 4 weeks later than originally expected, that's 6 weeks from now!! To say I'm gutted is an understatement It has been agreed I won't return to work until September.
