My RBKA was surgically done due to an infected foot on 1-15-15 after which I had phantom pains in my non existent foot and the stump was understandably painfull to the touch. But after ~13 weeks now both of these pains have subsided to the point of no longer needing 10mg oxycodone every 4 hours PRN. I believe I could get by fine with no pain medication at all.
But my LAEA was done way before the leg on 11-3-14. Even after that much more time to heal I still have phantom pains and the stump is still very sensitive to the touch. My liver has end stage decompensated cirrhosis so I try to take the minimum pain medication that I can due to this but I can't stand the pain with nothing at all yet. I'm currently taking 1 every 8 hours but that's about the least I can stand at this point.
So why is the pain in my arm improving very slowly as compared to my leg? It has had much more time to do so. And what non-drug options should I try to aid in a permanent solution? I read somewhere that if I have the nerves deadened permantly then I won't be able to use my prosthetic, or not as well anyway. I don't want that if I can find a better option. I massage the stump often but that only helps temporarily.
My leg was amputated due to an infected foot but my arm was due to a mangled arm that a loaded 18 wheeler ran over seen HERE. Is this possibly why the arm stump is worse than my leg or is it because of more nerves in the arm as opposed to the leg or....?
I've had bad dreams all my life and toss and turn often when sleeping. When I turn to a position that hurts my arm stump I wake up. On the frequent nights when this continuously happens I feel like crap all day the next day. I've tried strapping my stump against my body with no luck.
I appreciate any suggestions that may help solve some of these issues.
