I am 21 year old architect student, or at least I was, until a year ago.
I was in a car accident. The car rolled over and over and ended up upside down. The doors were stuck but a window was down. I crawled out the window. I got out to my hips when the car caught on fire.
By then, rescue personnel were there and got me out.
I lost the lower half of my body, except for a short stump of one leg.
There were no other serious injuries.
Now, a year later, I am in a wheelchair and have four major problems I am looking for help on.
First, I have excruciating pain in my short remaining leg stump. It is not surgical pain, or phantom sensations.
It gets better only when I hold my stump up against my belly, in the same position as if I were trying to touch my knee to my chin, if I had a knee.
I have researched this and the only condition that seems to really fit is called RSD. But my GP says this is rare and I can't get it in an amputated limb.
Whould I investigate more? What kind of specialist should I see?
Sexond, I keep having flashbacks. I am seeing a psychiatrist who gave me medication and said to keep a detailed diary. But writing seems to make it worse.
These are not are memories. When it happens, I am really there, experiencing the accident and feeling and smelling it again. I cannot control when happens. It disrupts my life.
I can smell the gas leaking and the sound of the fire starting. Then I can smell my legs burning, and feel it, too, until it gets numb, starting at my feet and then up to my hips.
I later learned that this was because the pain cells were burned away.
Third, I am so bad looking now, and so deformed, that there is no hope of any girl being even a friend. I can't do much, but I'd like at least a hug. I'd like to talk to another guy my age who has found some answer here.
Fourth, the psychiatrist suggests cosmetic legs. I don't know if this would help.
