Hi, Gang...I know I've not been around much recently. I've been dealing with a nasty old friend and wound up having some minor surgery on my stump.
Waaayyy back at the time of my amputation, a small adhesion formed, making a lovely little dimple on my stump. After a few years, the dimple started filling with thick (almost wart-like) skin. I went through a bunch of assorted doctors, had a biopsy on the growth (it was benign) and then went on with life, with my CPO just building in a relief for the lump in my sockets. Life was grand.
My latest socket, however, sent me into a new round of shrinkage, and the lump started to grow again. Within just a week after taking possession of it, my socket that fit like an absolute dream became an ill-fitting, painful disaster.
Soooooo..... Many doctors consulted, I was sent off to a plastic surgeon, a new set of biopsy samples was taken, and then he hollowed out all of the thick skin of the lump, cauterized the wound and sent me away...legless for at least a couple of weeks.
We're still waiting on the latest biopsy results. If the growth is still benign, I should be able to just get my CPO to do some more tweaking on the socket and maybe it will go back to fitting beautifully. If it turns out there's a problem with the biopsy sample, it will mean more surgery. Until then, I'm afraid I'm just feeling rather bummed out............sigh............
Sorry about the grumpy post...just needed to vent......
