Hi all,
I am going to be visiting Lapland soon and have all the thermal gear I will need but I'm wondering if I need anything to keep my leg warm inside the prosthesis as currently when the weather is cold my leg always feels like ice when I take it off and I'm not even in the kind of cold conditions I am likely to face there! Anyone had any experience with this?

No advice, but I'd be interested in what folks with "cold weather" experience have to say. I know that when I first started wearing a prosthesis it would feel so cold in the morning that I'd actually sometimes pull it under the bed covers with me and try to warm it up there before having to put it on...and I was living in Southern California at the time! So please keep us updated on any discoveries!

Good morning!
I live in Northern Alberta in Canada and do a lot of ice fishing and hunting in winter weather. -30ÂșC is the normal cut off point, and if there's no wind - that's even tolerable in some circumstances.
I find that keeping the stump warm is dependent on keeping the rest of your body warm. My socket is no different than any other, but I find that dressing in several layers with base layers (under armour 4.0), "long johns" regular clothes, insulated bib, big heavy jacket with neck protector, toque, very, warm gloves and boots with 2000 grams of thinsulate will keep my body warm. If you get a general chill, get hot and start to sweat or the worst - if your remaining toes get cold, that's the time when I start having issues with the stump getting cold. If I start to get cold toes, I will start walking around or rocking back and forth while scrunching and releasing my toes to get blood flowing. It'll take 5-10 minutes to warm them up.

Thanks, that's good to know that as long as you keep your body warm you don't have a problem with your stump. I've got all the gear you've suggested so should be fine I hope! Cherylm I do that all the time, sometimes sleep with it in the bed just so it's nice and warm in the morning
