Hey all, I have already explained my situation when I introduced myself,
I just wanted to share with you my story of how I managed the amputations and incontinence.
I've been fully bowel and bladder incontinent for the most of my life and due to multiple reasons have not found an effective alternative to using adult briefs 24/7. Catheters have always been painful for me and I can't be going through that 24/7. I've had surgery previously to solve my bowel incontinence problems which was unsuccessful and left some damage. I've also considered a colostomy but it's a serious decision to make, to have a permanent hole in your body, and I've heard horror stories of burst colostomy bags and infections. I'm dealing fine with using incontinence briefs, That being said it's still hard to deal with when it comes to the time when I need to change the brief.
I went through all of middle and high school wearing ridiculously heavy protection and at the time I hated it, not knowing that it was really helping me avoid more embarrassment. Since the small days my mother taught me to do things by myself and I can manage changing by myself. It can be really hard sometimes in the small regular toilets outside but handicap toilets are most of the times good enough to allow me to change quickly.
I mostly change immediately after a bowel accident or when the brief needs to be changed and almost always find it soaked in the mornings which is pretty depressing. Since mine is a severe case now at 20 I've had to resort to really heavy protection which is totally the opposite of descreet. But I manage to be descreet wearing skirts most of the time. I also wear plastic pants which hello minimize any smell to 0 and I'm glad I can at least control that. Of coarse it is an expensive medical need because briefs don't come cheap and insurance only seems to give whatever brand they want which really aren't good at all especially for me. But frequent changes affected me a lot at school when I would have to leave the classroom suddenly if I needed to change. My mother has somehow persuaded me every time to use the heaviest protection possible and she seems to know best. I've never had to deal with leaks or any problem with containment for the most part. Even during the night when my incontinence is really bad I don't end up wetting/soiling the bed every night so at least that's a plus. Don't get me wrong it's a real struggle some days and most other days it's the usual daily things to deal with.
As I got older I started using overnight briefs and eventually ultra heavy duty briefs because as I got older the incontinence got worse. Hopefully since I've stopped growing mostly it won't get any worse than it is.
Despite this I stay active by swimming regularly, (don't worry I wear swim diapers) it's very visible under a swim suit but I really don't care once I'm in the water. I'm also trying to decide on a major at college to pursue (I've already done around two years, deciding on a major, computer science or computer engineering)
I'm sorry if this seemed tmi for some of you but there's such a stigma on incontinence that I feel like sharing this helps people to understand that it's not only the elderly who have this problem. While I personally haven't met people who have this exact problem I've connected with a lot of people online who have had different types of incontinence and I find that it's still a stigma around most parts of the world.
I'm open to any questions, feel free to ask. I'll try to be objective/honest as possible.
