Hey everyone! I'm starting my GCSE Technology Coursework in School, and I've decided to look into problems that amputees may have while playing sport or any physical activites (e.g cycling, climbing) with the aim of creating a product that will solve this problem.
I'm asking for anyone to share any experiences they've had where they've encountered a problem/any issues they have when they play a sport or a physical activity. Many thanks!

Not being given a chance to participate because of the limitations others project upon me! The instructor of a karate course once refused to enroll me because he said I wouldn't be capable to perform all the moves because I only had one arm. I explained that I wasn't interested in becoming a black belt or anything... that I just wanted to take the class as a discipline and I would modify movements as necessary in order to participate, or sit out some parts if I felt it was beyond my ability to adapt. I was unable to convince him. This was many years ago (about 30?), and hopefully sports instructors are more enlightened now with regard to students who have disabilities. I know this wasn't really the type of problem you were asking about, but it is my most memorable "experiences they've had where they've encountered a problem/any issues they have when they play a sport or a physical activity".
Now, a real problem I've had with yoga poses is when one is supposed to be on all fours and then raise a limb and balance on the other 3, I tip over. I imagine the problem could be easily remedied by using some sort of support under the missing shoulder, but I usually just muddle through by adapting the pose.

Thank you for the response! It's a shame to hear that a karate teacher rejected you even though you we enthusiastic to join. I will definitely take the problems with yoga into consideration! Maybe that could link in to other activities too!
