Hi, thom, and welcome! AAhhhh...first sockets...they're generally a challenge, so don't worry, you'll get it worked out.
The weight issue was really surprising for me...but it is "temporary." Part of the issue may be how well it's fitting you...a bad fit can make the leg itself feel much heavier. So check with your prosthetist and see if there are some adjustments to be made. Then, just keep using it...the more you do with the leg, the stronger your remaining muscles will become and the lighter your prosthesis will feel. Eventually you won't be aware of the weight, although it's true that you'll still be expending more energy to walk with a prosthesis.
Not sure about your dressing issue...do you normally wear tight trousers? Either wearing a slightly looser leg, or "dressing the prosthesis" first, then donning it, and THEN pulling up your trousers might help.
Good luck!
