I hope you’re all doing well. My name is Matt, and I’m apart of a start-up called smartARM that is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At smartARM, we are trying to solve the problem that upper-limb loss amputees face with traditional prosthetics: that being they are too expensive and lack adequate functionality. We are solving this problem by combining 3D printing and artificial intelligence technology to create a prosthetic arm that is affordable (1/10th the cost of current products) and has superior functionality (infinite number of grips and new grips are easily trainable). Essentially, we use a camera embedded in the arm so that our technology can see what you want to grab and adjust the hand position to grab the item accordingly. This way, the hand learns by itself and allows you to focus on all your other daily tasks without having to learn how to cope with a new prosthetic device.
I’m posting here for one reason. Ultimately, we are trying to create something that will help amputees in their everyday lives. With that being said, we want to work directly with the amputee community to build a product that best addresses the problems that are currently being faced. We’d be very fortunate to speak with any of you one-on-one to learn more about how we can do this in the best way possible.
If you’re interested, feel free to send me a message on this site, or email me at matthew@smartarm.ca. Happy to set up a time to chat over the phone or just go back and forth over email.
