Hi, my sister lost her right leg and hip in a motorbike collision in 1993. She has had the same prothesis since. As she has a through hip amputation the options are very narrow for her. She has had the same prothesis since 1993. It weighs 14llbs, causes sores and is not particularly user friendly. Can anyone make any suggestions as to where to go for a more modern, lighter weight option for her. She is now 55 years old and is becoming sadly reclusive as her leg is so cumbersome. Once I work out how to upload photos I will put them on. We live in England but open to suggestions of people who can help anywhere in the world.
many thanks

Hi Belinda, welcome to the forum.
I'm not going to be much help as I am in Canada, but there are people on the forum who will likely be able to shed some light on some solutions for you. Please keep checking back. 1993 was a loooong time ago with respect to prosthetics. I've been a below-the-knee amputee since 1994. I am not sure how many different 'appliances' I've had over these almost 27 years.
I hope you and your sister find the help she needs.
Thanks,

C-Leg (4) 4,5kg my daily used one: very save knee cause CPU controlled
My waterproof UK-Knee called VeryGoodKnee 3kg: with less stump controll it´s not as save as the C-Leg for example
I´m liner user that´s why extra 0,5kg of weight but as closer the weight as easier:
I think 14lbs are not very much for a hip prothesis ! But today it´should be possible build it lighter.
