Hi I was recently recast and at the fitting I had to put on 4 thick socks to ensure inner sheath sat correctly, but my outer prosthetic is incredibly painful once on, it grips my bones at either side of knee and is causing intense nerve pain in my leg. My question is this, Is it possible that the measurements of the outer and inner have been switched? As it is weird I am in 4 thick socks when just recast. Any advise appreciated. Mary

Hi there. Welcome to the forum.
I think it depends on the method of casting. Did they use plaster and make an old-school cast or was it done with the little reflective stickers and laser scanner?
To be honest, the old school way of doing things was, in my opinion much better at producing a well-fitting socket. I found that once scanned, the technician can modify the computer model of the stump too much. I have had sockets that felt like they were made for other people they were so far out. I've also had more skin breakdowns on the scanned versions than I had ever before with the old-school plaster method.
I'm not sure what the 4 thick socks is all about. Seems kind of counter productive as you also indicate that there's uncomfortable contact on the bones along side your knee...
