I've been an amputee for about 17 years. Six inches below the knee. My insurance is Medicare and I've been told that people who use a prosthetic can only wear flats. I miss wearing heels. Is it true that we can only wear flats?

Hi there, welcome to these forums. That's a great question. I don't think I'm qualified to answer it though. Hopefully someone who can will be along in the next couple of days to provide some insight.

I remember back in 2006 I was learning to walk with my prosthesis (right leg, above knee amputee here), struggling actually like most of us the first few weeks.
So, a nice lady enters the rehab centre on high heels walking with no prob whatsoever. Now, the shocking part is that she was AKA as well! Never saw her again but honestly, if she was OK with high heels I am sure a BKA would have no problem with that. But what do I know, I am just a male AKA who wears flats anyway...

Hello, this is a question I have struggled with as well. I'd like to say I had a proper answer, I do not. I can tell you in my experience it's near impossible to find heels size 46-47.
