Researchers in Cleveland VA Medical Center make prosthetic hand which can 'feel' and 'touch'. It was a huge medical and engineering accomplishment which took place in the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center, where arm amputee Igor Spetic is a client working with biomedical engineers who developed the hand. The hand is wired into his arm where more wires are attached to his nerves. When a small electrical power is turned on, Spetic mentally commands his fingers to grasp, hold, or pick up an object. In addition, Spetic actually "feels" the touch of his prosthetic fingers. I'm quite astonished with how much things are changing on the medical front! I recently read about developments in treating blindness with an artificial retina...now you're reporting on a prosthetic hand that can "feel," and hands, arms, legs and heaven-knows-what else are starting to be "3-D printed" instead of being built by hand. We live in interesting times, Helen!
