Hi guys,
im Jeff, got into an accident paragliding and I’m wearing a prothese BTK for a year now. I’m very happy with everything I’m windsurfing and kitesurfing again and I’m gearing up to start flying my paraglider and wingsuit again, I do walks daily from 5 to 10 kilometers.
All in all I’m happy with my configuration, I’m 90 kilos and I’m using a very light foot. Ossur flex foot assure cat2, an Icecross Dermo liner and I’m fairly happy with the socket. Some pain on the shin every now and then, however this is when I stand the whole day or when I’ve been kitesurfing..... strange thing is, when I’m sitting on my desk, that hurts when I sit with my legs and feet in a normal’ position.
im here to learn more about, sockets, foots and liners... I’m happy with the configuration, yet, improvement is always welcome.....
Surf’s up, Jeff

I’m very eager to walk in the mountains again and could use some tips on descending.....
And as mentioned, what can it be that normal sitting hurts....
My prosthetic technician is open to everything so let me know....

Hi, Jeff,
Welcome! Glad to hear things are things are going well.
I'm an arm amputee, so I have no suggestions for descending trails with a prosthesis. But, I do have a suggestion re sitting. The pain might be only slightly related to the prosthesis.
If you have ANYthing that messes with the circulation in your legs (could be blood clot, old injury, old surgery, tumor, diabetes, chair too high for how long your legs are, prosthesis, just plain old age, anything) then it's pretty common to get pains in your legs when you have to sit all day. Sounds like you check several of those possible-circulation-issue boxes!
Standard tricks to fix it include (1) setting your watch to go beep every hour, and then walking to the water fountain or something once an hour. It helps if you tell yourself you really need to go to that water fountain that is one floor up or down from where you are, and take that flight of stairs (at least on the way up) once an hour. Good hydration helps with circulation, too, so be have a slurp of water when you get there (also, to make your trip to the water fountain look good!) (2) getting your feet up off the ground a little. Can you put a little box and a big box under your desk so you can kind of alternate between (a) your feet resting on the floor, (b) your feet resting on the little box, some inches off the floor, and (c) your legs pointing closer to straight out in front of you with your calves (or prosthesis) resting on the big box.
All this applies at home, too. You sound super-active but for those times when you watch TV or surf the web, get your feet up, get an ottoman or something.
Hope this helps, and welcome again! Also be careful with your paraglider and wing suit!! Plenty of us here on this site can tell you that having had one amputation doesn't give you future immunity against having another crash/accident/injury!
