Hello I’m Thomas, I recently lost my right lower leg due to a motorcycle accident. May 3, 2020 at 5:52 PM that was cut off by a minivan try to avoid equip the back bumper with my right foot. After being in the hospital 8 day and going through four days of physical therapy center that didn’t now up from down I went home to care for myself. i’m doing great going to be self-sufficient once again. I had to tell people to leave me alone for the anger people telling me what I could do keep pissing me off. I’m slowly starting to work my way back into talking to people again but when I go out people stare and I just stare back at them. I have seven people that come by and hang out with me they can deal with my stubborn ass and push me to get back up and do more to keep moving forward.

Hi, Thomas! I'm a new right BKA myself, and I know firsthand about the stares, etc. Each of us amputees are different and think differently, so I'm not here to tell you what to do but my solution to the stares and stupid comments was as follows: I do not hide my prosthetic leg with ill-fitting pants, its out there in a kilt! It is so easy to put on, take off, go to the bathroom and so on. The best part is that a kilt looks great! you can dress it up or down depending on your mood,I have had nothing but positive comments (especially from women) the few that utter stupid remarks, I ignore or if I feel like being contentious, I have a few rehearsed remarks that shut them up real quick! Be yourself and don't let others ruin your day.
