With the new NHS England supply chain contract that was introduced 1st April 2021 it is feared that many patients are not receiving or being offered the best quality upper limb products they deserve.
This new contract was brought in without the consultation of all the interested parties, many independent companies that have supplied premium quality products to the NHS for more than 20 years were not informed about the contract, so were denied the opportunity of applying.
The patient and clinic choice has been greatly reduced to a few major companies, sometimes to no choice at all. Many small companies supply some of the best quality, price competitive products on the market.
If you are told the product you have used for many years is no longer available, this is not true, they are available upon request, the NHS prides itself on offering patient choice. Just mention the ‘NHS exception rules’, and insist on the best product for yourself, it is your right of choice, regardless of the company that runs the clinic.
