Hello,
I'm new to this forum group and will not try to bore you with my entire life story but I was born with scoliosis which created a host of issues including an underdeveloped hip socket/ball, left leg muscles and ankle movement. The doctors treated my left ankle club foot by straightening it and fusing the ankle to a rigid position. I'm currently about 2.5" short on the left side (after leg lengthening, back straightening, 3 x hip reconstructions) with a fused left ankle. I have been able to make the most of my situation by playing all star baseball as a pitcher and living a relatively normal life, however my pain is catching up with me. My right knee has destroyed it's meniscus, I'm dealing with pain in my right hip/knee and my lower back is starting to become debilitating with any extrenuous activities. My situation is different from others as amputation isn't something that is considered due to an accident but rather birth circumstances and I'm looking for guidance on his I should go about this. The particular amputation I'm covering is an above ankle (about 4" above). Questions: - how does it "feel" to be missing the leg/ankle you were born with? - what are your day to day struggles (mentally, physically)? - how did you come to grips with the fact you were cutting your leg off? - what are some the day to day struggles with care/maintenance/pain you deal with?
Thank you for any insight anyone can provide as this is direction I'm leaning but mentally I'm wondering about the potential struggles
