Hello everyone I have not as yet had an amputation. But it is my sincere intention to have one. A little bit of background...
I'm 65, female, half Italian, and live in E. Midlands, Nottinghamshire.
Petite (4' 10", slight, but aiming to lose a few more lbs, nothing major...)
Injury to L5/S1 in 2002, resulting in critical compaction of disc, resulting in severe compression, and irreversible partial damage to sciatic nerve; gradual loss of muscle-tone (atrophied calf muscle) resulting in only partial movement to lower L. leg, below the knee.
After having worn a calliper for- I actually don't know how long! - am considering amputation of L. foot, above ankle, or half-way up the shin. Other options put forward, are unworkable for me.
After much to-ing and fro-ing, I eventually managed to convince my Dr to refer me to the Orthopaedics department of our local hospital, to discuss options, but have 99.9999% made my mind up... It won't so much be a discussion on whether to have it done, more of a discussion on WHEN to get it done....
Thank you for reading. All questions welcome.
(And no, I have no idea why my photo is on its side - it's perfectly upright in my file - !)
