Hello all. Here is my story. I’m 51 years old. I went into the hospital to have quadruple bypass surgery. My right leg got infected after they removed 2 arteries to use for the bypass surgery. After 4 surgeries trying to stop the infection, the doctors decided to amputate my right leg. I am currently in a nursing facility getting therapy to learn to walk with a prosthetic leg. The problem is that my insurance will not pay for the therapy any more. They cut me off just before I got the prosthetic leg so I have had to try to learn to walk on my own and it is not going well. I can’t walk at all without using a walker. I will be leaving this facility within the next week. I will hopefully get home care for a few weeks, but I am concerned that I will never be able to walk on my own let alone be able to drive my car. I was hoping someone had some advice. Thank you for reading this.

So sorry to hear about your troubles, aglsdad. I wouldn't be surprised if the denial of continued therapy is just the insurance company's standard coverage without giving consideration to your specific situation. Perhaps you could file an appeal with your insurance company, since you haven't been able to have therapy with your prosthesis. You'll never know unless you try...

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with the insurance company,Snowy is right for you to try and get the insurance company to approve continued PT. Unfortunately, you have to become your own advocate and spend countless hours on the phone or computer to achieve any results. Never forget that these companies are counting on you giving up, that way they don't have to pay. Get your doctors, and other care givers involved and become a real pain, eventually you may get what you need. PT is very important and what these companies do is very unfair. Keep trying!
