Hi! I'm a fairly new amputee (2 years since accident) Before that happened I was a fairly active sailor, and thanks to my mentor and fellow amputee, started back sailing my beloved old boat, rigged all sorts of safety devices, to make it not only safe but fun to sail. We then developed a plan to have other amputees join us for a day on the water. Unfortunately, the sailing season in Maine, where I live, is rather short and by the time we had everything in place, it was time to pull the boat out for the Winter. But this year hopefully we will hit the ground running (no pun intended). Our idea is to have amputees who either want to learn how to sail or just want to enjoy a day on the water. So far we have several people already signed up. The only two constraints are weather, and the fact that I can only bring 6 other people aboard at a time. If anyone reading this is interested and you can travel to Maine this Summer. we would be happy to welcome you aboard. Obviously, you would have to find your own lodgings and a way to get here. You can contact me via this forum.

Awesome idea, RG8! I'm not a water person, myself, but I expect you'll have lots of takers.

Thanks, Helen! One thing I forgot to mention in my original post is that if you are travelling from another state, you can readily find numerous places to stay, from reasonably inexpensive motels to top price digs; there is a reason Maine is called "Vacation Land". And if for any reason, you can't find lodgings, I would be happy for you to crash in my house, for a short time, of course. As Benjamin Franklin said: "...after 3 days a man gets tired of a wench, a guest, and the weather rainy", I know, it's politically incorrect but still funny!
