Hello forum members! As the title states I’m an upper arm amputee who recently just broke my ankle. I was hoping that the community here might have some helpful insights on how to deal with this situation. The Dr has recommended surgery and for me to put no weight bearing pressure on my ankle for 6+ weeks. My problem is that I don’t know how to go about doing such a thing. My main concern is using the bathroom and actually being able to be independent while recovering. Right now I’m in a cast and it’s very difficult even with putting minimal weight on my injury(I can’t see doing it with no weight at all because of stability). I’m hoping someone might have some suggestions or may have been in a similar situation and could give me some advice Thank you in advance Dan

Hi, Dan. Have you heard of knee scooters? They can be rented from places that deal in durable medical equipment, but Amazon sells them for as low as $70. I'm an upper arm amputee as well, and a couple of years ago I fell and injured my hip on the same side as my amputation, making walking without assistance impossible for several weeks. Luckily, my sister took me into her home and supported me walking by hanging onto/lifting me by my pants waistband whenever I had to go to the bathroom. The other extremely helpful device was a toilet seat riser (as low as $25 at Amazon) which can be installed temporarily on your toilet--those extra few inches make a world of difference when getting oneself on and off of the toilet with the use of only one leg.
