New to the site I am in the early stages of choosing between a fusion surgery and amputation. My situation is I had my right ankle replaced in 2014 and it was infected and went septic in 2018. The ankle infection was cleaned up and my implant was revised. On October 30th of this year my right ankle was septic again, however, the implant could not be saved due to bone and tissue loss. My surgeon said my only options are a complex bone block fusion or amputation. Still searching for the right answer. I have Blue Cross PPO insurance, I was wondering how it is determined what level of prosthesis I would qualify for. I am an active 63 year old and want to continue being active. I am also curious if there are a lot of out of pocket expenses with amputation that most insurance companies don't cover. TIA for any help in this matter!
