Hello,.. On 12/6 I had an accident at work and had to have 1/2 my left foot removed.. I know,.. sucks.. so I’m about 6 weeks out from like 4 Surgeries,.. and at the point that my Doctor has taken 1/2 my stitches out,. I’m currently limping in a boot.
I’m looking for anyone who can tell me that they can still Skate,.. someone who has had Transmetitarcil or everything from the High point of the arch to all the toes removed.
Anyone?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I am a below-the-knee guy but honestly I can't comment. Being from Northern Alberta you'd think I was playing hockey on ice from an early age - and you'd be right! I was. Dad always built a rink in the back yard for several years when we lived on an acreage. That changed in junior high when we moved to town and I stopped skating on the regular. Found out several years later that skating isn't like riding a bike - skills that you lose if you don't use and turns out I sucked at skating... Had my accident at 19 years old and honestly - in the 30 years since, I've not tried to skate, but I understand that people do. May require some modifications to your skate, though.
I believe that it certainly can be done. I think the fact that you still have a working ankle and part of your foot is a real advantage for you. I suspect it won't be the same as before but I'm sure you'll be able to compensate if you are patient to find the modifications that work for you.
Hope that helps. I know - it's not exactly what you wanted to hear, but also by being a Shriner, I've seen a lot of amputees to some crazy things I'd never thought possible.
