My names Greg, I'm 45 and since the age 12 I've had tumors removed from my right ankle as well as a fusion when I was 19. Over the years because of the hardware I've had cellulitis countless times, quite a few bad years on the leg, have asked for amputation before but wasn't given the option, recently got cellulitis with septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, tenosynivitis, tired of dealing with these issues every couple of years, found a specialist willing to give me the option that I've wanted, I'm just looking for yalls experience with your amputations good or bad.

Hello, Greg, and welcome to the forum, so sorry to hear of your many years of suffering--you're wise to "go to the source" to find out what you may be in for should you decide to proceed with amputation. As an arm amputee, I can't offer any personal experience with a below-knee amputation, but I can tell you that I have come across posts over the years by people who lived with limb pain for years before they decided upon amputation and express regret over not having opted for that choice sooner. We're a pretty quiet forum these days, but there's a wealth of information in the threads, if you have the time to do some browsing. If you seek faster (and more) personal responses to your inquiry, I recommend that you post your question to some of the amputee groups on Facebook.

Good morning, Greg.
I am left-below-the-knee guy. June of this year will bring me to 30 years!
I was involved in an industrial accident where I crushed the bones of my foot and ankle into some pretty small pieces and then got some full-thickness burns during the rescue operations. It's a long story - very dramatic. The doctors wanted to save it, although a pretty serious system-wide blood infection and gangrene had set in after a few surgeries.
After considering options (honestly, to this day, I'm of the opinion that there was only one path forward), we amputated after 5 surgeries to try to save it and on day 16 after the accident. I had a revision surgery 18 years later to clean up some atrophied and nerve-damaged tissue.
Regrets: 0.
Life is good, relatively pain-free.
Let us know how it shakes out. Ask all your questions! Welcome to the forum.
