Hi there. My daughter is 14 and had a traumatic heel amputation when she was 2 (lawn mower accident). She lost her Achilles , half her calcaneus and her heel pad. She did ok up until the past two years, but as she’s grown into adult size she’s been experiencing debilitating pain and resulting lack of mobility and she is scheduled for a BKA of that limb June 12.
I want to make sure we are making the right decision. We have been to many camps and seen how amazing everyone’s mobility is. However, I recently heard the term neuroma and in reading about it is sounds common. However her surgeon and prosthetist say it’s very rare. What is everyone’s experience with this? Help! Thank you

Hang in there, Mamabear! This forum has become pretty quiet over the years, but I hope someone who has the requisite knowledge and/or experience will respond to your post soon. You could try searching for "neuroma" on this forum for prior threads on the topic--use Search on the above tool bar. It seems to me that much of today's amputee discussions happen in Facebook groups, so if you haven't already discovered this, I would recommend searching "amputee" or "amputee support" on FB. Many of these groups require that you become a member before being able to read or make posts. In order to become a member you will have to state your purpose to the group administrator, which may take a few days, so don't delay. Best of luck to you and your daughter!
Helen
