I need some input. I have been talking to another family who's little girl (6 yrs) is facing amputation very shortly. It was a tramatic injury to her ankle which they have done everything to try an repair. After many weeks (over 8 weeks and probably double of that of surgeries), they are faced with chosing a symes amputation or a bka. My little man has a bka, but a very long one. He cannot weight bear at all, and I see that as a very large advantage if he could. I do, though, understand that some symes amputees find prosthtic fits very difficult. Can you guys give me and my friends any advice? I will post it in the prosthetic section and maybe ted can answer from a CPO point of view. She is facing this amputation in the next few days (12/29-1/1 possibly). Thank you all!!!

I have not been here for a while and I'm sorry that I missed this deadline. I have stated before that from a functional point of view a Syme amputation is always preferable over a BK (transtibial) amputation.
