Some of you may already know that I rescue/adopt special needs cats and occasionally a special needs dog. I thought I'd share my latest adoption. Yesterday I adopted a small Persian cat with one eye. She was one of 8 cats that were rescued from Cairo, Egypt and transported to a cat rescue in Wisconsin. She was one of the lucky few to be rescued by the Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals. An anonymous donor arranged for their transportation to a rescue group in Wisconsin. On a related note, Time Magazine recently published a brief article about the cats in Cairo. The journey to the United States was difficult for her. She arrived very thin and extremely dehydrated. She also arrived with many internal parasites. Her right eye ruptured shortly after her arrival and unfortunately it had to be removed. The vet didn't think that she would survive her health problems. After lots of TLC and $, she has recovered from her eye surgery and other health problems and she is doing great. I can't imagine what she's been through, if she could only talk, I bet it would be a wonderful story and probably a best seller. She is a wonderful little kitty and she is very sweet. She is very friendly, trusting and loving even though she was once homeless and living on the streets of Cairo. She is adjusting quickly to our house and is being spoiled rotten. Links... She's a one-eyed beauty, mitchee, and looks so calm and collected after what must have seemed like a nightmarish adventure to her. Have you read "Homer's Odyssey," the book mentioned in the Time article? Homer is truly an amazing little cat and his "person" tells quite a story!

A Persian Egyptian, hmmm :-)
Thanks for sharing this, it's nice to think of her being well cared for.

My cat, Rosie, is 18 years old, but thinks she is still a kitten.
Her new game is to come into the bathroom with me in the mornings and get involved, sometimes sitting on the bathboard, sometimes getting into the bath (no water at that point), generally making me laugh.
She is a joy.
