In the January/February 2011 issue of its inMotion publication, the ACA announced that it is "moving from a traditional fee-based membership model to an open community "Friends" organization for people with limb loss," in an effort to grow their membership to 25,000. Paid members still receive extra benefits like discounts to the annual conference and a printed copy of inMotion. No change to professional and facility memberships.

I hate to ask, but what is ACA ? I googled it and got everything from American Camp Association to American Cycling Association.
I though for a moment American Correctional Association might be it, but then I figured, nah - we're too smart to get caught ;-).

Such a great pity that the Limbless Association of the United Kingdom will not see the same light

Hello Mac.
Just a note for our mostly North American friends - the UK Limbless Association is a continuing source of annoyance to many British amputees, as it is run by committees rather than by amps themselves, it has miriad rules and regulations, and lately has brought in a membership fee - and if you're not a member, you can't post on its forum.
Fortunately, in these international/internet days, such national organisations aren't as necessary as they once were, so many British amps come to sites such as ours, or Heather Mills, or even another UK-oriented site, the UK Limb Loss Information Centre, originally set up by the Douglas Bader Foundation.
But as you hope Mac, maybe the UK L.A. will take a leaf out of the ACA's book and stop wasting its charity income on managers (although I doubt it!)
Allen, bka, London.

One of my reasons for resigning as a Trustee and Company Secretary was the fact that no one would listen or acknowledge that not only should membership fees not increase to £20.00 PA but should be scrapped. anyways folds will leave the cribs about the LA to the LA site and will not repeat will not spoil this site with further comment. cheers Allen, hows the cycling going

Moan away, mac! That's what we're here for. Remember, this site is run BY and FOR amputees, so we understand the need for occasional complaining.
The cycling (now on electric bike) is going fine, thanks - see the 'sports' section for more (not that I see it as 'sports', but it seemed as good a place as any to post things).
PS Didn't know you were co.secretary/trustee. Who talked you in to that one?
