Thought I'd share some of my experiences as an aspiring Paralympic Cyclist (especially as just a few years ago I was seriously overweight and doing nothing with my life!). I realize that many people here are NOT based in the UK (where I live), but the stories are still valid! I currently ride with the Irish National Team and am ranked as one of the best int he world at the moment. Had a few good results this year and building towards London 2012. Anyone interested in what goes into being a 'disabled' cyclist (and one of the best in the world currently) and would like to read my blog, check it out: 637daystogo.blogspot.com/As an aside (it doesn't hurt to put this out there), if you read my blog and are interested in supporting me in a SMALL way, I'm currently raising sponsorship funds for a big charity ride. Essentially I need to help raise funds for the Irish Paracycling team to help get us to the London 2012 Games. And will doing a 100km charity ride to do my part. And so... if you would like to support the Irish Paracycling squad, please follow this link and donate ANYTHING. I mean it – ANYTHING. www.mycharity.ie/event/colin_lynchs_event/ Thank you in advance to anyone that helps out. Finally - if you have ANY questions for me, please post them here and I'll be happy to answer them. All the best! Colin

Hello Colin,
And it's good to have you on board.
As you will have seen from the other cycling threads, our main preoccupations here are mechanical - i.e. the actual mechanics of cycling without two legs - rather than Olympian, but I am sure you will be an inspiration to us to try even harder!
I look forward to your participation in our discussions, not just about cycling, but about other aspects of living with less than the usual amount of limbs.
Allen, bka, still cycling (although now with battery power).

I started as a mere mortal just a few years ago and have advanced quickly! But happy to take part in all sorts of different discussions. The technological advancements I get the use of might be of interest to the 'everyday' cyclist. Plus, living with one leg still proves a massive challenge (off the bike).
