When driving, I am one who doesn't get worked up at all when someone in front of me does something stupid. If I get cut off in traffic, as long as I was never in danger of a collision, I am fine with letting a guy in...
The only time I use the horn is when a collision is imminent or if something the other driver is doing is really dangerous or highly illegal. I don't think a horn in a truck or car should be used as a punishment to admonish someone for a transgression.
I'll give you a scenario that will lead me to my question: Sometimes when someone does something REALLY stupid, like today when I was returning to the office after lunch when the car in front of me reversed in the lane for three car lengths to back into a spot in the next lane, causing me to stop dead while she moved - - -I have the irresistible urge to pull up beside them and look at them to see what they look like.
What am I looking for? Why does it matter what they look like? Am I looking at them to see if they LOOK as stupid as the move they just made?

Don't know the answer, Stonecutter. But it sounds as though the driving test all over the world should be much stricter!
We have an organisation over here called the Institute of Advanced Motorists which organises tuition and driving 'tests', run by ex-police drivers. All voluntary, and all you get for passing the test is Kudos. And the ability to survive longer.

Ha! I actually in this case didn't see the driver. I was in a left-turn lane and they were (now) going straight.
I honestly don't know what I'm looking for when I do that. But it's hard to train myself not to.

When I do it it's because I want the person to recognize that there is a person (me) in the car they just cut off or whatever. Sounds really silly when I write it, but there it is.
