Having put up with failing eyesight for the past couple of years, to the point now where I can no longer cycle (which was the only exercise I got!) and even though I'm blind in ONE eye already, I've opted to have the offending very large cataract removed in surgery this coming Friday.
If all goes well, I should have good vision (in what used to be my 'good' eye), although the blind one will of course stay blind.
The worry has always been that if the operation goes badly, I could end up with TWO blind eyes - hence the change of picture to dark glasses and a white stick.
No reason why it should, of course. I've had a reasonable amount of bad luck over the years, fuelled in no small part by my old alcoholic ways (11 years off the booze now), so I'm hoping the universe will at least nod in my direction on Friday and say 'Let's give the old sod a chance.'
Keep them crossed.
Allen.

As someone with her own share of weird eye problems, I'll be pulling for you Allen! They can do wondrous things with eye surgery, and if all goes well with the cataract extraction it's very likely you'll get major improvements in your vision on that side. Consider "good vibes" being sent your way!

Good vibes received and taken up, Cherylm. My good eye has gone back about 30 years, overnight. My sight in that eye is pin-sharp - so sharp it makes me gasp! I am seeing things now I didn't even know existed.
Wonderful surgeon (who gives a lot of his time to charity eye work in the third world). May he be blessed.
Allen.

Ann: I'll try and dig out that Santa Claus pic; I know the one you mean...
Thanks for the good wishes. Amazing thing about the eye is the absolute explosion of energy from me - I've done more in the past week than in the previous year! In some ways, it won't matter if the brilliant clarity of vision doesn't last for ever (what does?) - I shall relish every moment from now on!

Oh yes, it was the same after I had it done. I believe my other eye is {ready~ripe} whatever they call it. It will last Allen, and isn't it wonderful to be able to read without rubbing your eyes all the time. Have a wonderful Christmas! And hope Santa can find his picture........

Is this the 'santa' pic? I am vain enough to have a folder with 'old forum pics' in it, although these days little to be narcissistic about!
