I posted this at the old forum last fall. I copied it here just to start things off in this subforum.
Come on folks - let's hear some of your stories!
Funny thing happened on the way to the admin assistant the other day...
The socket on my BK prosthesis has seen it's days. It's no less than EIGHT years old now, and aside from there being a lot of socks (21) required, the fit feels great. I had actually put off putting in for a new one (WCB) for a long time, because it was such a good socket. Once I broke 20 socks - that was it - I went in for a new socket and foot. The new one is under construction at the moment.
So there I was, working in my office per usual, and on the way to the admin assistant to hand her some work, from one step to the next, there was a quite loud pop, and the next thing I know, I'm heading towards the floor. I broke my fall on a file cabinet. The look on the poor lady's face was one of sheer shock. I looked behind me to see what happened, and there it was - fresh from falling out my pant leg:
It was more embarrassing than anything. I hated to be the subject of such a big scene. After assuring my office co-workers that I was indeed fine, and that indeed this didn't hurt at all, one of them was off to the nurse's office to fetch a set of crutches. Someone carried the foot portion of the prosthesis, (as my arms were busy with the crutches) to my truck, kicking me with my foot all the way, saying "Stop kicking yourself... stop kicking youself..."
Anyhoo - I went home, donned my old leg and by old - I mean - I haven't worn it since May of 2000. It felt fairly foreign, as you all could imagine. I was walking with a cane. Off to my prosthetist. He had me fixed up by the ened of the afternoon, and I was off for the weekend!
