I am still reflecting on my future. The responses have helped me clarify some issues. I will write more when I can.
Meanwhile, I have this quick question. Are there any more peer boards like this one?or am I as alone with these issues as I feel I am?

Hi Jill,
I know there are other boards out there, although this is the only one I belong to other than belonging to a group on Facebook called "Facebook Amputees".

There are quite a few online amputee support groups out there, Jill...they were among the things that helped me get through my own recovery process. I'm not a Facebook person (yeah, I know, how old-fashioned of me...) so I'm not personally acquainted with the Facebook groups, but I've been involved with the Empowering Amputees board, the Amputee Coalition resources library, the Heather Mills Amputee Forum, and an odd little group called "stumps R us" whose slightly warped sense of humor tickles my funny bone. Our own little group began as an offshoot from another group.
So do some searching...you'll encounter some great people! (Just one little warning, though...there are also some people out there who have some pretty sick and exploitative ideas about amputees and who also live online. If you visit a site that strikes you as "very weird" or "strange," just walk away from it. There will be plenty of other places where you will find genuine help and support.)
And, of course, you always have us!

The problem with most of the groups is that they often attract more devotees then amputees. You'll know them when you find them. The people here are genuine. I know most of them. I knew Allen before his amputation. I've been an amp for almost 20 years and an active contributor to many boards and mailing lists. I have the distinction of being 1 of 2 people ever thrown off the St. Johns mailing list as well as Heathers, the Facebook page and a Yahoo group.

I find the same thing. Many hidden agendas and few genuine people.
I have talked to a few real people on Skype and phone, though, and they have helped me alot.

Tend to agree, I also drop in on the Heather Mills forum which is reasonably good. Have found some of the FB amp pages a bit argumentative so don't tend to post on there nowadays, occasionally look in on a few though.
