Anyone know an amputee that get's Medicaid or disability? I have been denied for both 8 times now in 20 years. Curious if anyone ever got Fed. help for their disability.

Having a disability doesn't automatically make you disabled. I know an SAK amputee who spent her career working for Social Security Disability. She told me once, if memory serves, that amputees qualifying for disability benefits on that basis alone need to be missing at least 3 joints--counting ankles, knees, hips, wrists, elbows & shoulders only (i.e. DBK = 2 joints missing = not disabled enough to qualify for benefits). An amputee missing fewer than 3 joints but having additional disabling conditions may also qualify for benefits.
To answer your question, I do know a hemi-pelvectomy amputee (hip, knee & ankle) who is on federal disability.

Thanks for the info Helen. It aggravates me to no end considering an adult baby in California is getting full disability, as well as his caretaker, yet I cannot even get medicaid. See the link... Adult BABY GETS FULL DISABILITY!

Yes. I receive both. All of my scrips are paid for as well with no copay including full prosthetic coverage. I also have a full time 9 to 5 maid who cooks cleans does laundry, shopping, errands and drives me wherever I want to go. All paid in full by the friendly people of the United States.
The secret is all in the application and perseverance. For Social Security you apply, get denied, reapply, get denied, hire a lawyer, reapply, wait another year, then get your benefits with a large check retroactive to the last date you worked. It takes 2 more years for Medicare. For state benefits, I had to apply 5 times. Remember you can get these benefits just for having a bad attitude. So no the "Baby" doesn't surprise me. Is this a wonderful country or what?
