Hi, My name is Lindsay, and I am new. I'm scheduled to have a BKA on my right leg next Wednesday due to a long history of failed corrective surgeries in my foot which led to neuropathy developing in right foot, chronic infection, and foot deformity. I will post more about my story in the other forum. About me: I'm a 29 year old social worker at an adult residential home. I live with my fiancée Renee, our lab mix Malachi, and brother/sister cats Charlemagne and Alaise. I've been on other message boards before for past (emotional) trauma issues, and since there are no in-person support groups in my part of Massachusetts, I sought out on-line support. I look forward to regaining my life back and want to soon be back to swimming, walking, kayaking, and maybe one day, downhill skiing. I like to read, do genealogy research, go to concerts/plays/museums, sing, play board and card games etc. I look forward to getting to know you all here! Lindsay

Hi Lindsay, Welcome aboard. Please feel free to ask any questions you like. On a bk you can do all the things you mentioned plus many more. Try snow boarding and tubing. Have you contacted the ACA for a group in your area? (1-800- AMPKNOW) I can relate to the genealogy as I have traced my roots back to 54 B.C. in Northern France (Gaul) I also enjoy board games and collect Monopoly games. My main hobby is Boating.

Hi Lindsay, and welcome to our little group. Your history sounds quite a bit like mine...I've been a left BK amp for almost 10 years now, due to a badly broken foot. Several failed repair attempts led to a massive case of MRSA and many months of pain and disability.
Snarfler's got it right...your basic BK amputee can live a basically normal life with only a few alterations in how you do things. Basically, if you want to do something badly enough, there's a pretty good chance of being able to figure out a way to do it.
How long have you been planning for this surgery? What, if anything, do you still have questions about? There is no such thing as a silly question when you're facing such a permanent decision...so ask away!
