My name is Cammy. I was injured in Iraq and had an elective KNA in 2009. I had major tremoring and phantom pains which I still get, in 2010 so here is a summary of what happened. After I had an op in 2004 for going over on my ankle on Telic I had a dead bone in my foot which was cut out. This never recovered so they were gonna amputate it 2005 which was a bit extreme so I got my ankle fused Mar 07 went back to work and 1st Ex I was on in Dec 07 I fell in a hole in the dark and trashed my nerves. I then went to Headley and had an elective amputation as I was in so much pain and the meds I was taking were massive amounts of opiates and all the other good that goes with that. So this is July 09, in and out of Headley and they had me jogging in 3 months. 2010 I developed tremoring in my left leg and phantom pains and this is Jan 10 and my leg was going 24/7 so I ended up having a Deep Brain Stimulator in Sep 10 and that was brutal and didn't help and I got a few more bouts of brain surgery to no avail. Since then I've had Spinal Cord Stimulators fitted and never worked so Nov 13 I was fitted with a Dorsal Root Ganglion stimulator fitted so that's been the best help so far for my phantom pains.

Wow...that is a "ton of stuff!" I'm glad that you seem to be getting some relief from the phantoms now. I'm just now recovering from surgery on my remaining foot...they removed a troublesome bone and cut and repositioned a couple of tendons...which appears to be helping me with walking and is definitely better than their original plan, which had been to do a partial foot amputation.
Odd just how much time and effort can go into the upkeep of our limbs, isn't it?

Most definitely. I'm About to have more surgery next month to remove neuromas from my stump again and to also have these nerves placed into any nearby bone to try and stop the neuromas forming. But as you'll be aware anything can happen with our nerve endings. Also at the same time I'm to have a subtalar ankle fusion. So lots of fun and games. Can you walk far or is it still short journeys for you?

At the moment, I've been "officially cleared" to walk 200 feet with the aid of a walker. I'm seriously hoping that will all change on Friday when I follow up with my surgeon. With a little bit of luck, my cast/boot/brace contraption will be coming off and I'll be able to start extending my range and getting away from the walker. I can hardly wait!
Ankle fusion? That's one thing I've always hoped to avoid...and so far it's never been raised...hope it goes well for you!
