Well, I still think my simple BKA is the "better" amputation for being able to get on with life...but,boy, Helen, this is looking like an amazing time to be an upper extremity amp looking for prosthetics! Have you heard anything about the "weight" issues that I know plague arm amps...anything more happening on that front? The video from Bebionic for that new hand is certainly impressive!

The "weight" is an even bigger issue with above elbow amputation level since there is more 'equipment' to support, and the geometry and physics involved are more critical than with below elbow level. I have a Bebionic full size hand, generally fitted to men, but if I had it to do over I would prefer the Bebionic 'Small', which is generally fitted to women, because of the weight being less. The length of the prosthetic arm forearm is also critical, and should be as short as can be allowed and still have good functionality and still be generally symmetric with the opposing limb. As you can imagine, a functional fit with the socket is crucial. I myself am lucky enough to also have a Motion Control ETD with opposing 'hooks' that can also interface with my arm, which is lighter, quicker and generally more usefull in more situations. JMO
