Hi. New here. This past November I celebrated my fiftieth anniversary as an amputee. I lost my upper left side (arm, collar bone, and shoulder blade) due to bone cancer. I was eighteen at the time. It was traumatic enough but I had to tred it alone for my abusive parents have me no emotional support. When I was trying to relearn things I had done with two arms like tying a tie, my father told me to stop what I was doing and find a woman to help me for the rest of my life. I emphatically said no, I will learn to do things myself. This showed me that I was on my own. This in of itself began to give me the upmost strength to survive.
When I was in college, I met a one hand minister who gave me the best advice for I was a new amputee and pretty downtrodden. He said you have to believe that you can and will do better than the two armed world. That became my focus and my mantra and I succeeded and learned how to survive on a two armed world.
