Hi all-
I was lucky enough to get involved with a study at the National Rehab Hospital in DC, where a neurologist is studying how the brain works a prosthesis, or some such thing. Not too sure on that one- I was just hoping to hook up with some folks who might help correct the abomination of a prosthesis I've got.
Went down to meet with their prosthetist yesterday, who actually has upper-ex experience! In about an hour, he had a plan for a new arm, and we'll meet for a new socket fitting in two weeks!
Overall, it was a blessing of a day.

Cast for my new socket on Friday, and even the test socket is WAY more comfortable than the old one!
Testing the rudimentary setup he attached to the test socket, I learned that my original (90 days post-amp) thought that the higher-tech solution would be better was way wrong. This will just be a purely mechanical setup with no myoelectric bits at all, and even trying it out at the shop I could do more.
Final fitting supposed to be this week. ;D

New arm set for pickup on Monday. I don't care if I have to rent a snowmobile... I'm a-gettin' down there to DC!

Hello Bluedogz. I think we're going to hear the whoops of joy from here if it's as good as you expect!
(Oh, we have snow, too. About an inch deep in places. Chaos, of course, and not a snowmobile in sight).
Allen, bka, London.

Ahhh.... comfort. At last I've matured enough as an amp to appreciate a well-made pin-lock socket with a good old Hosmer hook on the end. Attachments:

Oh bugger, it's gone and turned sideways....

And the verdict is in... it fits, it works, and life looks better. I think the biggest part of the change is probably in my expectations. Before my amp I had an acquaintance with a C-leg, and I sort of expected that there was a "C-arm." There isn't. This is a good old polycarbonate (read: plastic) socket, no elbow, just a wrist unit to articulate the forearm, and a hosmer hook that might or might not stay. And it fits so that i can wear it all day.

Glad you're finally moving in the right direction bluedogz. And I couldn't agree more - hope and expectations are what keep us going day after day.
Allen.
