I'm a new(ish) LBKA about 4 months ago, after the amputation I started to get Phantom pains and was prescribed Gabapentin which started at a low dose but soon was 2700mg, it didn't really work and after about three months I decided to stop taking it. I had no idea that it was so addictive and went into withdrawal which was awful (yes I'm naeive). Anyhow went to the dr and weened off it, I have never had panic attacks or anxiety before but while weening i did. I've been off it now for about 3 weeks but I'm still getting some anxiety attacks, anyone else had this experience and how long did it take to go away?

It's a shame that you were prescribed something without being warned about the potential of addition. I've never heard of Gabapentin so I can't answer your questions directly, but I chimed in because I have been exploring the use of homeopathic remedies for relief of phantom pain. Because my pp episodes are triggered by stress/anxiety, I have been using Hyland's #6 Kali Phos 6X* (for relief of stress, simple nervous tension & headaches). Since I've been using the Kali Phos (10 months) I have been able to survive about half of my pp episodes without the need for prescribed medications. Anyway, since you're now suffering anxiety attacks, I thought I'd mention the homeopathic remedy because it may help you and there's no risk of addiction.

Thanks Snowyh, I agree with the comment about prescribing without explaining the possible side effects, I've learned my lesson and will ask next time, although in my defense I was distracted asking many questions about my Newley amputated limb lol. I no longer am getting bad phantom pains they stopped abruptly although I do get some tingling, pins and needles and numbness, but all are minor and I can deal with them without medication. I have never had anxiety or panic attacks before and I'm told they are common withdrawal symptoms, being as I haven't took gabapentin for 3 weeks I'm just wondering if anyone else had any symptoms like these and how long they lasted. Thanks for replying though I'll keep your suggestions in mind.
