Hello, being as I have asked several question here I guess I should introduce myself.
I'm a 55yr old male LBKA. It all started around the beginning of this year(2017) I was having pain in my ankle while on my feet, being me I ignored it and took some Tylenol to try and ease the pain but eventually it got to he point where it was to accute to ignore. I made an appointment with the Dr and was diagnosed with a bone cyst, surgery was schedleled and the cyst removed and packed with cadvadar bone (the cyst was in my Talus). Several days later I was told that the mass they took out was not a cyst but an osteosarcoma (a very nasty and aggressive bone cancer) I was told from the start that the leg would have to go after some chemo.
Fast forward and I'm 4 months post op and although osteosarcomas are known for spreading quickly especially to the lungs so far my scans are clear. I've adjusted pretty quickly and accepted what's happened, I've already had one prosthetic, an elevated vac sys but we didn't get on with one another to well, I'm getting a new pin lock system on Wednesday and hoping we get on better.
Unfortunately Drs are more interested in how your wounds are healing and offer little in the way of practical advice on your recovery and as I said in previous posts I felt that I was left blowing in the wind. This forum and others have been a gold mine of information and practical tips on how to survive and acclimatize to life as an amputee and for that I thank you all, it has also prompted me to share here and as I mature as an amputee to pay it forward and offer help to others who need it.
