Hello, all! I'm sorry for my English in advance. I've watched different videos in Youtube about prosthetics in western countries and was literally shocked - amputees living full live, running, swimming and doing things that amputees in 3rd world can not even imagine.
My father is an above knee amputee, lost his right leg when he was young, his prosthes do not allow him do things like running or climbing up stairs the "normal way". I'm planning to buy a new protheses to him when I have enough money. But for now I would like to know more about different prostheses, because right now I know nothing.
Here the questions I have: 1. Which manufacturers is the best? 2. Do all "running" protheses require implanting some sort of metal inside the hip? Are there "running" and "climbing up stairs" models which you can just put on? Please, explain advantages and disadvantages of different types of protheses. 3. How often do they need to be repaired? This is the most serious problem, it would be expensive for us to go to Europe or USA and buy prosthetics, but if it requires constant maintenance, I will have to give up at all.
