Hi everyone! I am 24 and a fairly new amputee. I had a knee disarticulation at the end of 2017. I am looking for others that have had a KD done who can offer up some advice! I look forward to reading and connecting!

Hi, aliddle, and welcome! I'm not a KD...just a below-knee with a really short stump...but I'm sure you'll encounter folks who can offer advice. Feel free to look around, read some of the threads, and ask any questions that come to mind.
Actually, I came close to becoming a KD about 18 months ago. I had a revision surgery to remove what amounted to a little over half of my previous stump being sacrificed to an infection. So what I now have experience with is knee instability...doubt that's much help for you, but Iam a good listener!

I'm not sure what a "through knee amputation" is, but a disarticulation is the separation of the bones at a joint, without having to cut any bones. Don, if you're considering this type of amputation, ask your surgeon to explain exactly the type of amp he/she suggests and any alternatives.

It is how it sounds its through the knee. I think its the same as a disarticulation. Which is why I messaged you just for advise. If iv got it wrong and you haven't I apologise. Thanks for responding though
