Hi all, I am a right leg above knee amputee and have been for the past six years now and i live in England and i am desperate for some help and i am hoping one of you guys out there might be able to help me? We are due to visit Florida end of March 2010 to start our search for a holiday home, we will be flying into Orlando and i need to hire an automatic car that has been adapted with a left foot gas pedal, i have rang about 5 companies that advertise as being able to hire vehicles adapted to this spec, but when i contact them they know of no such vehicles, i have even rang a couple of companies that adapt vehicles to see if they could point me in the right direction regarding hire but this has drawn a blank . Please could anyone help me with any information at all regarding this matter i just don't know what else to do. Thank you in advance to anyone who gives the time to respond to this post. Scott

One of the tabs on there site talked about amputation and the need for left foot pedals. It looked as though they have rentals with all different set ups for all different disabilities. You will find that over here in the states they only promote the wheelchair accessible versions as they are more commonly needed.

Thank you for your input oneblueleg, i think i have made it difficult on myself by driving adapted cars as my head is kinda used to that set up now i wish i had done what you had done and crossed my legs from the start then i wouldn't have this trouble with a hire car and also i wouldn't have to pay the high costs of getting my cars adapted over here, i have been tempted to just hire a normal automatic but as i have never drove on your roads before i don't think it is a safe option i only have to hit the accelerator (gas) pedal instead of the brake and it could be quite messy. Thanks Scott

Hi all, me again. Right then one of you good guys from across the pond has informed a good guy from a forum here in UK (a top guy called Allen who is on this forum too) about a portable twin flip gas pedal that will fit in most cars (www.plfa.org and also on e-bay), now this looks like the way to go for me as i will be able to use it in hire cars as well as my own car and future cars, i had no idea these existed so i thought i would post these findings here incase there is anyone this information might benefit, also has anyone had any experience with these pedals. ;D
