Hello,
I am looking for an amputation for I have been living with local nerve damage and severe chronic pain for several years now and it is slowly taking its toll. I had an accident in 1993 and 10 reconstructive surgeries on my left knee, leaving me in a world of pain (I'm on fentanyl now, the morphine and ocycodone having worn off after a couple of years).
In France, where I live, the doctors do not want to do anything and do not even want to discuss amputation. Whereas, after speaking with people who have had a transfemoral amputation, my life would be so much more liveable if I could just get rid of that leg. Even if there's phantom pain. Even if the logistics of having a prosthetic leg aren't easy to handle. Even if I cannot even wear a prosthetic leg...
I do not care about the visual aspect of having a stumped leg nor about what people think: being in a wheelchair I'm pretty much used to "the Stare". I prefer missing a leg to living in agony.
But ...I'm on my own, the pain is slowly wearing me out, and I have to find a surgeon who would have the courage to give me a second chance.
Any ideas of whom I should speak to? I'm willing to travel all over Europe and to the UK. Thank you!
